Top 5 Warning Signs That Your Social Media Prospecting Efforts are Actually Absurd SPAM
Are you spamming on social media and you don't even know it?
Today I'm talking about the top five warning signs that your social media prospecting efforts are actually spam.
Have you ever wondered whether you are building your business on social media the right way or the most effective way?
Before I give you the 5 warning signs...
I just want to warn you that this probably is going to rub some of you the wrong way...
And if you're recruiting with social media, there are many, many pitfalls that you're going to need to avoid...
But first I'm going to tell you a story about my pitfalls that I have definitely fallen into...
So I have been building online now for the last three years...
I entered into the network marketing arena about 20 years ago when my son was about six months old.
And I have undergone some deep personal development experiences, probably more negativity than any human should have to endure...
And I'm sure if you are a network marketer, you have probably experienced some of this...
But the good news is this story has a happy ending.
I know I'm not one that did everything right...
There's been many, many fumbles, many embarrassing moments and more prospecting mistakes then I even care to share.
Because I seriously hope my friends and family at this point have long forgotten the things that I did to build my business.
And it's kind of embarrassing, right?
But all of us have been there, right?
So just so you have an idea of one of the things I did that is super funny....
I actually was told by my up line to use Facebook to build my business, they told me to use it however I wanted to...social media prospecting was the future...
So I used messenger as my first social media prospecting tool...
They said to find the people that you were already friends with or people that you had gone to school with...
And so I went into my messenger and I sent a message to a friend of mine.
I actually went to prom with his best friend and I hadn't spoken to this gentleman for 20 years.
Okay so I sent him this message and I asked for his phone number. I'm like...
Hey Gary, this is Brandy. What's your phone number?
So this is what he sends back okay, because I didn't say anything about a business...
I was just trying to get his phone number so that I could give him a call and give him the elevator pitch, right?
So he sends back this message,
Brandy, you know that I'm married. Right?
So embarrassing! Anyway, long story short, he ended up joining my business and I ended up driving three hours north to go meet with him.
I took my son with me so there wasn't any weirdness because of course he's married and so was I.
But it was just super funny!
If you guys have done any of these funny things, let me know in the comments because seriously...
I have walked into malls and walked right up to somebody, asked them for their number or pretended that I was interested in what they do and all of that stuff just to get their information.
So this is what I was doing to build to build my business.
And so what I'm trying to say is that I'm going to probably throw a few people off and It's probably gonna feel a little awkward...
Because I'm going to say it how like it is with social media prospecting.
But I wanted you to know right up front that I've made all these mistakes too.
I'm not saying that we should go easy on people that are still doing it because the reality is people are uneducated about it...
But if they want to run a business and use social media prospecting to grow their team, they need to get educated, right?
And the problem is that people are prospecting this way...
By using spam and sending "copy and paste" messages.
In fact, I just got one yesterday, they friended me and then they sent me a message that says, "Hey, you want to do what I do and build your business from home?"
And I'm like, did you even look at my profile?
So we want to make sure that we are not falling into these mistakes.
We want to make sure that we're not doing this.
And the problem is that what's happening, too many people are doing this...
And then the people that have never been in our industry or have never done network marketing before, think we all are spamming and it gives us all a bad rap.
Because people that have gotten these copy and paste messages are really turned off.
There is a very, very, very fine line between recruiting with social media and spamming people.
And I'm sorry to say, but most network marketers have turned into these human spam bots by their upline.
They're like, use this copy and paste message, friend all these people and send it out to everybody on your friends list.
The Internet is our tool for social media prospecting and we can use it to build our businesses...
But we're doing it wrong and we're giving the industry a bad name.
And so how to use the internet as an effective tool needs to be taught, people need to be educated and it needs to be shared.
There needs to be a more effective way that we can teach our downlines and the people in the industry to build so that we can all succeed, right?
For instance, I got another one this morning that said,
Hey Brandy, have you heard what's happening now?
Like they want you to text back and say, "No, tell me"
I don't have time for that!
I don't have time for the chitchat, the small talk and all of that business... that's crazy!
Let's actually start caring about people because people don't care how much you know until they know how much you care.
And that's actually a, a quote from Theodore Roosevelt if you've never heard that one before.
But it's about caring about people and becoming a person of value.
And being someone uniquely positioned to help other people with their problems.
And any idiot can copy and paste a private message on Facebook.
But it's not effective and the problem is is that it's making it hard for everyone else.
Okay so let's talk about the five warning signs that your social media prospecting efforts are actually spam.
This will help you if you're a little fuzzy on, whether it is spam or not?
Okay, let's get to the gist of this and uncover the secrets of social media prospecting...
Your first private message to a stranger on social media includes your link to join your opportunity.
Spammer, don't do that!
You get angry replies via a private message or you have been reported as a spammer.
I'm actually at that point right now because I've actually done this...
I got kicked off of Linkedin and I got put in Linkedin jail for sending private messages and somebody recorded me as a spammer.
No joke, but again, I told you that I've done some of this, right?
You post links to your opportunity or website in the comment section of other people's social media posts.
Do not do this!
This is spamming!
I know there's people that have taught other people how to do this and told them this is the most effective way.
But listen, honestly, when people do that to my post that I've spent hours and hours building or thousands and thousands of dollars promoting and somebody posts their link on my post, it really irritates me!
You have no respect when you're doing that! It's just not cool!
You compulsively want to talk about your company or products without anyone asking you to share.
Okay. Now I've been there. Okay. A lot of us have been there.
We get excited about what we're doing. We get excited about the products and opportunity and we go throw up on our friends and family.
In fact, I remember throwing up on my old Mary Kay director when I found my new company because I was like, oh my gosh..
We don't have to do the parties!
We don't have to drop off product!
We don't have to pick up money!
We don't have to wrap it up all pretty and we don't have to wear a suit!
All this stuff that I thought we had to do! Right?
So I just threw up on her and totally blew her out of the water.
She wanted nothing to do with my company!
You engage in interactions online with a hidden agenda, hoping to transition the topic to something that would get people interested in your opportunity without caring about or knowing the other person.
And this last one for me is a little bit controversial because it is the very definition of prospecting online or offline.
And even when it's done right, it still feels awkward and results in people getting angry at you and them feeling very used.
Like the only reason you talk to them was to enroll them in your team.
And I've actually had some people that I've talked to tell me that.
They say, "the only reason you called me really.... was to enroll me into your new deal right now."
So now that we've identified if you're a spammer or not, how do we move to be the non spammer?
How do we figure out how to use social media prospecting the right way and to use social media to build your business to be a person of value and not a spammer?
Okay. Now here's the interesting thing...
Three years ago I was super frustrated with all of the driving around, prospecting everybody within three foot rule...
Messaging people on Facebook, sending the copy and paste messages.
I was over it! I wanted a more professional way to build my business.
How many of you are there? Drop me a comment down below if that's your issue.
When I stopped prospecting...
When I figured out how to bring people to me because I am a person of value...
When I learned to share value and show people how they could do what I was doing...
Then my business started to grow!
The cool thing is that now I have a more professional way to build my business using social media prospecting.
I just had a top earner reach out to me a couple days ago and they want to know how I do what I do...
And how they can start building their brand.
A top earner, right? A top earner in another company!
Reached out to ME and said, "Hey, I want to start doing what you're doing. I want to brand myself. I want people coming to me."
Here's the thing...
I enjoy being normal again, after three years of prospecting everyone that could fog a mirror.
I actually love going to the grocery store and not having to talk to anyone about my business.
I love sitting on a plane and not having to have a conversation to the person next to me because I need to build my business.
I love having human interactions because I'm a human, not because I need to build my business...Right?
If you're getting some value drop me a comment down below, I'll love to hear from you.
So once I stopped prospecting, my business actually started growing!
But then how do you grow your network marketing business if you're not spamming all your friends and family?
Here's the thing, when you figure out how to use attraction marketing, that's when your business will start to grow.
It is a leveraged alternative to one-on-one prospecting.
It won't make you feel like a "chief salesman" and you're going to have people come to you!
Internet marketing is a passive strategy that works even when you are not working. Which is pretty cool, right?
That top earner who reached out to me about doing what I'm doing, actually left a message on my phone...
I didn't even have to pick it up!
I called them back when I had a minute to call them back.
I'm now able to recruit in mass and recruit more people in one day than I could in one month!
No more hunting or stalking people in malls, right?
How you do that is you become a person of value.
And your business is going to depend on your value, not you.
And when you become valuable online...
You share with other people,
And you build them up...
You're teaching them how to build their business,
And they're coming to you because they want to do what you do!
That's the cool part!
If you want more of this strategy, you can go ahead and grab it HERE.
You'll get the nuts and bolts of what attraction marketing means and how to stop spamming.
Again, the name of this blog was the top five signs that your social media prospecting efforts are actually spam.
And gain, there's a very fine line between the two...
But you want to make sure that you stay on the not spamming side!
You want to make sure that you become a person of value and you start to brand yourself.
So I hope you got value out this and realised how powerful social media prospecting can be... If you did, go ahead and let me know in the comments.
Instead of spamming, ask questions, go deep...
Peel the layers off that onion.
Treat them as a human being not as a human spam Bot.
You don't jump on them with your opportunity first!
You definitely want to become a person of value and have a servant mentality so that you can serve that person whether or not they want to get in your company or not.
